How to Make Civ 5 Fun Again

  1. Random, Continents, Standard speed, Immortal Difficulty.

That'southward what I take as my current game setup. I used to be satisfied, but now I become extremely bored towards the mid-game, regardless of the fact that I'm winning or not.

I guess the most boring function is that I e'er discover myself doing the same thing - rush to Education, go universities, become ranged units, etc. I can't discover any way to win that doesn't involve doing that on Immortal difficulty.

What are some means that yous have made CiV fun again? Do you lower the difficulty and attempt unlike strategies? Exercise you go for a conquest victory? I would have to say that my funnest victory I had was ane on Emperor when I successfully defeated a runaway.

I'll exist playing Starcraft II until I get some ideas.

  2. No, you try unlike strategies but go on the difficulty level the same. makes information technology satisfying when you win, and given you lot haven't honed the new strategy, you're less probable to be leading so soon. If you feel out of your comfort zone, well, y'all wanted to liven things upward, right?

There are a few civs that I consider to give me very interesting games because they strength me to modify my natural playing style and/or can exist used in a variety or ways.

For me these are Persia (I never really worked GA'due south hard before and the extra movement is really fun), Sweden (actually makes you think about diplo, adds another dimension defective elsewhere) and Byzantium (Focus on working the organized religion pantheons and very versatile. loads of possible combos). I'd recommend focusing on trying to get the most out of these civs' UA.

For you, it might be good to try an early rush civ/early wonder civ, which will force you away from your standard educational activity beeline. Culture civs probably wouldn't be a bad thought either. Also wait for civs with UU'south you don't normally apply in your armies (not ranged). If you want to make the most out of them, y'all'll be forced to modify the mode y'all war.

  3. One really challenging thing I've found is to put the maps option on shuffle. I find it much harder to deal with the challenges of the map that way. Very dissimilar games than my normal settings.

Or play a themed game: For example, take the Polynesians, on turn one, accept your settler onto the ocean and make your first settlement on an offshore island. Or take go backwards on a style: can you play India wide, or perchance take England in a desert?

  4. You should watch Buzzdowan's videos (http://youtube.com/buzzdowan). He comes upward with interesting ways to play Civ V, such as Siamese Twins, Redemption of the Capital, Picky Conqueror, City Trader, Underpowered Nation, Feed the Beast, and Split up Empire.
  5. Set your tech tree to autopilot Future Tech from Turn 0 onwards, and go from there.
  6. Does that make you lot inquiry techs more balanced? How does that work?
  7. The challenge is surviving without beelining the techs you desire or demand. Y'all might get into Medieval without touching Archery first, for example.
  8. Ask yourself why you win, what is it that makes it so easy for you, and then handicap accordingly.

For example, don't use the UU for whatever civ you lot are playing.

If you e'er win within X turns, set up yourself a goal to win in X-25 turns.

Never go on the offensive, defend only. Or, start state of war ASAP and never brand peace. Or deliberately offend other civs and so nobody is your friend.

Win without using any Neat People. Win without a single world wonder.

The possibilities are endless. Merely whatever yous do, come up back here and permit the states know if you succeeded!

  9. Beginning playing some mods - check out what's bachelor on the Steam Workshop. You'll probably come across something y'all like that gives you an entirely new Civ experience.
  10. My guess is you need some contest to reignite interest. Try GOTM s or MP games. Competing with real people is fun too, regardless the level of difficulty.
  11. Go for achievements. Thats what I do.
  12. you know I dont ordinarily get for achievements in my games merely civ 5 is the first game i have where I thought the achievements would be fun to become and they are. Maybe if you dont care about the achievements, download some of the more than intresting mods, out there.
  13. Mods, scenarios, crazy playing, yous can do many things. Try exploring the many options given when setting up a game.
  14. I know this is easier said than washed, merely try to be less worried virtually the conclusion and more than concerned with the journeying. If yous are like me and take put WAAAAAYYYY too much time into this game, you know yous can win. Similar others take said, handicapping yourself is a great way to brand a more interesting and challenging game. For case, you don't HAVE to take all the best religious beliefs and you lot don't Take to take 240 aureate from the AI for your 5th copy of silver. Accepting gold per turn instead of lump sums is a simple but effective handicap. You will yet go the gold you deserve for the merchandise, but because it comes at a trickle you are less likely to snowball information technology into something greater.
  15. Play harder Siamese Twins!
